Father Arafat
Dear friends,
An
expression of condolences for the passing of the Father
of Palestine. Like all fathers, he got it wrong
sometimes, but he enabled the Palestine people to keep
their identity over the last 50 yrs. when it could have
been destroyed. You have another reason now to work for
the return and liberation of the Palestinian people - to
see Jasser Arafat's dream come true, to see all that he
worked for become a reality. He is merely resting for a
time. He still lives as long as Palestinians live. May
God bless you and the Palestinian people everywhere,

H E President Yasser Arafat
My
Dear Friends
I am
unable to attend any of the events in London in memory
of President Arafat. However, I could not let the
occasion of his passing go by without expressing my
great sadness at the news of his death and my
condolences to his family - the Palestinian people.
I will remember him as a tireless campaigner for
Palestinian freedom and for peace with justice.
I
had the honour to meet President Arafat in Ramallah in
March 2002, when I was part of a national delegation
from the trade union UNISON, and remember how he
received us with great warmth. He spent over an hour
and a half discussing the Palestinian cause, the Israeli
occupation of Palestine and the peace process.
Throughout, he showed great interest in our views and
questions and he kept emphasising the importance of
international solidarity with the Palestinian people.
I just hope what little we were able to do when we
returned contributed to the struggle in a way he
would have appreciated. Once again please accept
my deepest sympathy.
